About Monica

Monica Fennelly

Hi all!

My name is Monica Fennelly. I am a senior at Drake University studying computer science and information systems.

At Drake I am involved in tennis club, weightlifting club, and badminton club. I am an active member of the sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma. In Kappa, I served as risk management and head technology chair.

Currently, I am a Systems Security Specialist at Bankers Trust in downtown Des Moines, IA. Bankers Trust is located in the second tallest building in Downtown, known as the Ruan Center. Some of my favorite perks of working downtown are the views and being able to walk to my building using the skywalks when it is freezing outside.

A little more about me:

I am an Iowan born and raised. Surprisingly, I do not live on a farm, drive a tractor, or like corn on the cob. I have one older brother who also attended Drake University as a biology and business major. I have two dogs: Ivy a Miniature American Eskimo and Ringo an English Setter. They are my pride and joy and you will see many updates and pictures of them both.

I have a strong passion for dogs and I volunteer with Second Chance Dog Rescue. Second Chance is a nonprofit shelter for solely dogs and is run by an amazing woman, Denise, check out their page if you have time! The only bad thing about volunteering at a dog shelter is I want to take all of them home with me.

In my free time I love to travel, hike, explore, and read. My favorite place to travel to is my summer house in Michigan, for the reason that I’m able to do everything outside. Our house is located right on the lake in a wooded area. I love to be on the water tubing, skiing, waterboarding, slaloming, and more. My favorite places to hike, in Iowa,  are Ledges and the Maquoketa Caves. I’m always looking for new places to visit, as Iowa isn’t well known for hiking areas. My favorite book is Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford. It is historical fiction based during the interment in World War II. I was able to visit the Panama Hotel in Seattle, Washington, which is the location that the book is based off of.

Thanks for stopping by! Come back for more puppy, travel, and life updates. 🙂
